In St. John’s telling of the story of Jesus calling his disciples two invitations dominate the narrative: Follow me and Come and See. Jesus invited them to embark on a journey and the main work of that pilgrimage was to pay attention to what Jesus had to show them.  During Lent we are going to be looking at scriptures that embody Jesus’ invitations to be vigilant.  To grow as a disciple of Jesus is to grow in our ability to stay awake and take in the things he wants to show us.  The journey with him is about learning to open the eyes of our hearts and so begin to perceive our world as he sees it.
