What We Believe
One of the oldest and most reliable descriptions of the essentials of the Christian faith can be found in the Apostle’s Creed. This creed is perhaps the most succinct way to describe the core of our beliefs at Emmanuel.
We believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended in to heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Beyond these lines a good way to talk about what fuels our life of faith in Christ is to speak of the interplay between grace and gratitude. In his mercy God graciously pursues us in Jesus Christ to reconcile us to relationship with himself and we live in grateful response to this gift. God loves us and we seek to reflect that love in the world.
