Prayer is an expression of our relationship with God.  As with any relationship, our relationship with God involves conversation, the give and take of interaction.  Yet often we treat prayer like it is merely our part of a transaction with God.  We see it primarily as a tool to let God know what we want.  We deposit information with God and then wait to see whether that will achieve a desired outcome or fill a particular need.  But prayer is not a tool we wield; it is an encounter in which we participate.  It is as much about listening as it is about speaking.   In this Lenten sermon series we will delve into a variety of stories of people who encountered God, and explore some of what the Bible teaches us about learning to listen to God.
